Ze'ev Duckworth

Zeev was born in Cape Town, South Africa and spent his formative years in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. They received their Bachelor’s in Modern Languages from University College London, where they focused on French, Hebrew, socio-linguistics, and translation.

Prior to coming to Tulane, Zeev spent half a decade with the Israeli LGBTQ+ Youth Organization, where he worked in its research institute, educational department, and international relations department, while running the largest queer youth recreation center in the country.

As a student in the sociology track of the CCC program, Zeev’s research interests lie at the intersection of the sociology of sexualities, urban sociology, and the sociology of culture. Zeev studies the relationship between queer subjectivities and space, with a particular interest in queer place-making, changing sexual geographies of urban space as well as the manifestations of queer communities in non-coastal, non-metropolitan cities. Given their international background, Zeev is also interested in the local-national-global dialectic of queer subjectivities, communities, and cultures.

Besides being a full-time graduate student, Zeev also works and volunteers as a professional translator. In their free-time, Zeev is an avid baker, a passionate Yiddishist, hiker, and reader.
