Julie Ford

A life-long resident of South Louisiana, Julie Ford studies issues surrounding the meaning of justice from the perspective of those who have survived violent crime, with a focus on gender and power-based violence. Researching criminal legal reform efforts, Julie has a particular interest in the political and emotional tension between efforts to end mass incarceration and the oft expressed needs of crime survivors for safety and harm recognition. Additionally, Julie’s work explores the trauma experienced by survivors of violent crime resulting from the criminal legal process.   

As a student in the Social Work track of the CCC program, Julie examines non-traditional means of addressing trauma after violent crime, including survivor-led advocacy efforts and community engaged wrap-around models for trauma recovery. 

Julie also volunteers with a local organization connecting survivors with resources, regularly incorporating graphic design and project management skills gained as an architect and interior designer into both academic and community work.
