Cameron Leahy

Originally from St. Louis, MO, Cameron moved to New Orleans to study as an undergraduate at Tulane. He quickly fell in love with Louisiana, and was called to action by its status as a capital of mass incarceration. While a Tulane undergrad, Cameron interned at Voice of the Experienced where he learned about the experiences of presently and formerly incarcerated folks. Within the classroom, Cameron focused on social justice issues and completed an Honors thesis on the state of homelessness policy in the U.S.

Cameron spent his time after college working for the Orleans Public Defenders and living in Baton Rouge, LA. Client-centered defense work kept him involved in the New Orleans community. He also volunteered as a Research Mentor for the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition, helping under-resourced high school students develop social justice research projects.

In the CCC program, Cameron is broadly interested in researching the way policing impacts communities. He specifically hopes to closer examine the ways unhoused people and juveniles interact with the criminal justice system.
